I met her on a summer day
My feelings soon began to change
I should right then have run away
For they were all too sweetly strange
She somehow had attracted me
We sat and talked a little while
Not knowing what there was to be
So beautiful and what a smile
I was invited up to stay
To visit for a little while
Somehow I would regret the day
She stole my heart with just a smile
She was so lovely sweet to me
It only took a little while
To know my love would always be
With she who had the winsome smile
December came and things would change
Affection from me was the cause
Foe her it had been way too strange
Which turned into an eight months pause
Through lonely days and painful nights
I struggled with an aching heart
Made harder still the inner fights
Hard conflict they would oft impart
